BUILD TO THRIVE: CAPITAL CAMPAIGN

A $1M gift from the O’Shaughnessy-Hurst Memorial Foundation allowed us to purchase our first permanent home in 2012, a 17-acre farm in Clifton, VA.

In order to meet the growing demand for our services, and provide an enhanced experience for current riders, their families, and volunteers, we have embarked on a whole scale capital improvement project that will unleash our property’s full potential.  Phase I, including the new, lit outdoor riding arena, expanded parking, accessible playground, and extensive foundation and infrastructure work needed to prepare the site for the indoor riding arena, is nearing completion.

Our Board voted in January 2019 to move ahead with Phase II, the 17,000 square foot Jean and Ric Edelman Indoor Riding Arena, education room, rider observation area, and restrooms. Trinity Group Construction, Inc. has been selected as the General Contractor, with building anticipated to begin this June.

NVTRP riders are enjoying the new, lit outdoor riding ring.

Campaign Goal for Phase I & II:

We have raised $4.38 M towards our $5.5 M goal for Phases I and II, the Facility Transformation/Sitework and Completion of the Indoor Riding Arena.  Fundraising will continue uninterrupted until we reach our final goal of $6 M, providing the additional $500,000 needed to complete the new 20-stall barn.

Madeline, 10, and her mom Rebecca at the 2016 Ride to Thrive Show

"Riding has so many benefits for Madeline and is the thing she looks forward to the most each week.  She has a huge emotional connection with the horses and that connection motivates her more than anything else . . . Routine is essential for so many children with disabilities.  Having the indoor will let us keep her routine in place and make sure her progress continues all year long." - Rebecca Patterson

Shannon, 16, riding Nöffy

"Riding at NVTRP is the most phenomenal therapy for Shannon.  What I value the most is that she enjoys it.  It's so rare that she gets to do something her typical peers get to do.  Riding gives her the chance to have fun, in addition to providing a host of physical benefits . . . When you live in the world of special needs, you get used to waiting lists.  This building project means that many more kids like Shannon can get off NVTRP's waiting list and started riding."  - Megan O'Boyle

Smokey riding Pierre at the 2016 Ride to Thrive Polo Classic

“I have been dealing with PTSD and other mental health issues during my military career for the last 11 years. . . The therapeutic riding program [at NVTRP] was a huge part of my treatment and without it I would have had a much more difficult stay. The opportunity to get outdoors to a quiet and peaceful environment with the horses was very stress relieving and helped me calm down and relieve some of my anxiety. The teamwork needed with your horse really helped me to focus and was very satisfying when we began to understand each other. . . I highly recommend therapeutic riding for those suffering from PTSD and other mental health issues. It still is and will continue to be a vital part of my treatment.” - NVTRP Military Rider
